Global Alexa Top 100 Websites Analysis

I was just curious about Alexa top 100 websites and how it look like if I conduct a bit of domain extensions specific analysis using the same top 100 websites data. Same curiosity has let me to look into further details.

At very high level, it’s clearly evident that .COM is the dominant player of the top 100 websites,clearly the CCLTDs are the next best and as expected no new GTLDs has a space in the top 100 websites.

I have tried to analyse the length of the domain names of these top 100 websites, its clearly evident that 97 of the top 100 websites are less than or equal to 10 characters.  IN reality more than half of them are less than or equal to 6 characters , so clearly  it has proven the shorter the domain the greater chances for accepting by end users.  Shorter and brandable domains will be certainly in demand.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

When I look into the type of extension these 100 websites belongs to majority of them are related to established GTLDs , where as CCTLDs has a strong presence with 38% . Not a single new GTLD is present in the top 100 websites.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

When look into the number of sites by count , clearly .COM has a strong presence in the top 100 websites followed by .CN, .JP, .RU , .DE , .IN ..etc  majority of them are CCTLDs.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Conclusion:  

This is quite useful analysis and I have understood the top 100 websites of the globe. .COM is dominant player followed by CCTLDs . No other GTLDs come close to .COM and also several CCTLDs are ahead of the GTLDs like .net , .org.   This analysis proven that CCTLDs has great future.    So focus on the fundamentally strong CCTLDs.
